The Figaro Brand Shaving Razor was a an art deco inspired product packaging
with a “simple yet refined” design objective. One of the biggest hurdles was
creating the packaging from scratch but presenting it as if it were just as decadent
as traditional 1920s products and packaging.
Initial Sketches / Research
The product went through a couple name changes and style changes. The main
priority was an antiquated presentation with heavy traditional undertones.
“Shelby” was a more risqué direction as a nod to a mistress or another woman.“Figaro” was meant to be a nod to the Barber of Seville - as he will help you get the girl.
Branding & Logo
The logo was based upon the classic edged facade much like something
you might see upon the entrance of a opera house or other posh architecture.
The branding itself needed to look like the aesthetic might have crisped up as
technology got better, but the selling point should feel “tried and true”.
The Shoot
I worked with a team of 4 photographers for approximately 3 hours to get the shot.
Throughout the entire design process I had corrosponded with the head of photography
to hash out a design that would enhance a package shape, while
producing great photography. How they got that lighting, I’ll never understand.
